Artist Statement
As an artist, I am often asked where I get my inspiration and how I go about creating a particular painting. In order to create what I do; I must always look for an emotional connection, the basis for the story that I am looking to tell. Often these stories come from a personal experience or from a story being shared by a friend or client.
Experiencing a Wyoming Prong Horn courting his doe, a group of majestic Utah Mule Deer sparing for their position in the natural pecking order, a great Salt Lake American Bison dusting his coat in the parched the grass lands, a southern Whitetail stepping onto the stage of the evening sunset, those majestic poises of the many species of down east waterfowl, or the dynamic light of a mountain vista sunrise, or the changing colors of a coastal marsh sunset, all light a fire in my sole to do what I do.
As an artist, I find that I am blessed to spend as much time in the field, seeking these unique encounters as, I do in my studio. It is always about stepping into a motivating moment in time, and experiencing God’s creation of the great outdoors. |
