Are you bothered by the trash you see on the roadside around Lake Gaston? Would you like to be part of the solution? The LGA’s Lake Cleanup Committee has two new programs to help. The LGA recently made five trash pickup kits available on-site at the Lake Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce to be checked out by the public. Each kit has four sets of gloves, four high-visibility vests, four “grabbers,” and trash bags in a reusable shopping bag. After you have finished using the kit, you return everything (aside from the trash) to the Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce. The Lake Gaston Chamber has also offered an option for more ambitious groups -- they have large barrels that are available for trash collection, so get your group together and help clean up our community. You could even start a friendly competition between your HOA, church group, club, business, etc., and other groups around the Lake. Make sure to take “before” and “after” pictures of the area you cleaned up, as well as a picture of all the hard workers, and send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. Another program we are working on is identifying existing community clean-up events so we can share the information with the LGA membership and offer up our volunteers to help with the event. So if you are aware of any clean-up events that are scheduled around Lake Gaston, please forward the information to the Lake Cleanup Chairperson, Shannon McAllister, at This email address is being protected from spambots. Make sure that you are following the LGA’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/LGA.nc.va) for updates on opportunities to come!
