Education Committee

Supporting the education and enrichment of our youth

Due to our inability to find a chairman for this committee and ongoing challenges in the schools with the pandemic, the Board has elected to (at least temporarily) place this committee on hiatus.

We hope that in 2023 we can possibly restart the Lakeside Learning Days.

In the interim keep checking for updates, as necessary.

The Lake Gaston Association completed its summertime partnering with the John 3:16 Center to help provide school supplies to children in local schools around the lake.  Every summer the John 3:16 Center operates a “Stock the Classroom” school supply drive.  LGA members helped distributed, monitor and pickup school supply donation boxes at various locations throughout the community. Local citizens donated supplies in the boxes at a location near them.   The John 3:16 Center will be distributing the supplies collected to schools throughout the counties.  A big “Thank You” to all our members who helped distribute the boxes and made donations to assist local students.

Earlier this year the LGA purchased snacks and drinks for the students attending our Spring Lakeside Learning Days (LLDs). Unfortunately given the cancellation of the LLDs due to the impact of the coronavirus, the LGA will not be using these items in the near future. Many of the snacks and drinks had use by dates before Spring of 2021 when next year's LLDs would be scheduled. The John 3:16 Center has been collecting money and food donations to distribute food for needy area families that are out of work in today's coronavirus environment. In support of the needs of our area families, the LGA donated these snacks and drinks to the John 3:16 Center in support of this good cause.

The Education Committee is finalizing plans to hold two Lakeside Learning Days (LLDs). The first will be on April 2, 2020 for Warren County Middle School 6th grade students, and the second will be April 9, 2020 for James S Russell students. They are to be held at Granite Hall Shores subdivision launch area and Edward's Beach, respectively. April 30, 2020 is the planning date for a LLD for William R Davie 6th grade students. If you want to observe or better still assist please contact the Education Committee.

we have had to cancel the LLD events for April due to schools being closed and the stay at home mandate

We are engaged in scheduling a Lakeside Learning Day (LLD) for Warren County Middle School. Expectations are that we will be holding several LLDs this Spring with future school meetings to address LLDs coming up.

The in-school presentations again have seen low interest by the schools. The Education Committee will be assessing the value of continuing this program after this school year.

We welcome any member to share their thoughts and participate on a part-time basis to support the Educational Committee. Being active with local students is a great way to provide an important service to our community. The Education Committee meetings are held at Littleton Food & Spirts on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 8:30 am.
